A message to the Community of Albany
Two young men sustained serious injuries from the incident and remain hospitalised, one of these men is in a critical condition in Royal Perth Hospital.
A criminal investigation into this incident commenced immediately and is ongoing, Albany Detectives and Major Crime continue to work through all of the evidence collected from the scene and from witnesses.
This incident has a significant impact on the whole community and the WA Police Force thank the community and businesses on Stirling Terrace for their cooperation during this investigation, a Protected Forensic Area was established on Stirling Terrace to facilitate containment and collection of evidence related to the incident.
Police Forensic teams from Albany and Major Crash Investigation have completed the recording and collection of evidence from the scene.
The investigators will deliver the evidence to the court, there was CCTV footage of the incident and there are a number of active inquiries which are being followed.
The criminal justice system will ultimately examine all of the evidence related to this serious incident, based on the facts presented through the court process there will be a legal outcome.
Discussions are being held with community Elders and Emerging Leaders, these discussions will continue in order to retain the safety and well-being of our wider community.
There has been considerable social media commentary posted regarding this incident, most of the commentary is speculative at best and is causing sustained anxiety to the families involved and the broader community.
We ask those who use social media to be considerate of the families who have been impacted by this violent incident.
Police will be very proactive in responding to any threats of violence and there will be no tolerance shown to those who would seek to take matters into their own hands.
