Norseman Fire - Update

Published on

A fire burns next to a road.

The Western Australia Police Force, Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) and Main Roads advises that Eyre Highway and the Coolgardie-Esperance Highway have reopened.

Some speed restrictions are in place and it is anticipated a large number of vehicles could be on the roads, so motorists are urged to drive with care and ensure they have adequate fuel, food and water.

One speed restriction site just east of Balladonia is down to 80km/h to protect firefighters and machinery in the area.

The Eyre Highway is a main thoroughfare for essential transport, which has built up since the road closure and motorists who don’t have essential travel plans are asked to wait a day to allow trucks with urgent supplies to get through.

The WA Police Force will have an increased presence on these roads and will target driver fatigue, speed and unsafe overtaking.

Please plan your trip and seek further information about the fires and road conditions by visiting the Emergency WA and Main Roads Travel Map websites.
